OUTLINE OF DIABETES PRESENTATION:
- Introduction to Topic
· Can give a brief overview or example of people with Diabetes in common
· Can point out that it hits various groups, cannot tell by looking at them.
· Possibly a few pictures of people with Diabetes in the PowerPoint.
- Definition of Diabetes
· Can give scientific definitions to be resourced
· Can break up into separate types of Diabetes
· Can explain ways Diabetes happens, giving examples, charts, diagrams
· PowerPoint can follow all of these easily.
· Could possibly use the running of an engine as an analogy and come up with ways kinesthetic learners can add or subtract fuel and other liquids that will make the engine run better or worse.
- Numbers and charts of Diabetes statistics
· Charts can show visual learners the statistics of who and how many have Diabetes
· Teacher can have students stand up and split the room up by the percentages for the kinesthetic kids to learn.
- Risk factors associated with diabetes
· Can show pictures and add descriptions of risk factors associated with the disease.
- How to control type 2 diabetes
· Can give a list of ways to control Diabetes
· Can give a list of foods beneficial to controlling Blood Glucose
· Can have foods prepared in front of class or pictures
· Can give a list of foods that are risky to Blood Glucose
· Can have foods prepared in front of class or pictures
· Can prepare a balanced snack for the students
- How to check for diabetes
· Can show an Insulin Tester and possibly each kid can test their own (would need school and parent approval)
· Can give a handout of self testing risk factor sheet they can have all family members take as a homework assignment. Or just them in class.
- How to treat diabetes
· Can show dietary changes needed
· Can show exercise benefits
· Can show the new technology of pumps
- Conclusions
· Can wrap things up and give each kid a handout on risk factors and ways to prevent.
